About MHO
Our story, principles, founders and volunteers.
Empowering women and girls through cultural pride and shared humanity.
Meli Heritage Organisation (MHO) is a registered, independent NGO in Uganda. We empower street-connected girls and vulnerable women by blending indigenous food systems, trauma-informed care and sustainable economic solutions — ensuring dignity, resilience and self-reliance.
Founded in 2025 by a committed couple, MHO arose from an urgent need to protect girls living on the streets and to create long-lasting, respectful pathways out of poverty for vulnerable women and children. Rooted in cultural pride, trust, and shared humanity, our work restores dignity while equipping women and girls with skills to thrive.
Why we exist.
A Uganda where every vulnerable girl and woman — regardless of background — lives with dignity, safety, and self-reliant opportunity.
To restore hope and transform lives through indigenous food systems, nutrition security, psychosocial care, and sustainable livelihoods.
What guides everything we do.
Ubuntu (Shared Humanity)
We rise together, celebrating our shared dignity. Our community is stronger when everyone is included and heard.
Child Safeguarding
Zero tolerance for abuse. The safety and wellbeing of every child in our care is non-negotiable.
Gender Inclusion
Women are equal stakeholders in every initiative. We design programs with and for the women we serve.
Cultural Pride
We honour indigenous food knowledge and traditions as a source of strength, identity and resilience.
Stewardship & Accountability
Transparency guides all we do. We publish our results and are answerable to our community.
Innovation & Resilience
Tradition and innovation work hand-in-hand. We adapt and grow while staying rooted in our values.
A shared calling.
Our founders are a couple with a shared passion for restoring dignity, protecting vulnerable girls and preserving food heritage. Their lived experiences and commitment shape MHO's vision, values and programs.
Shared humanity in action.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of MHO. From mentorship and skills training to food programs and outreach, our volunteers give their time, skills and love to walk alongside the women and girls we serve.
We believe volunteering is not charity — it is shared humanity in action. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds but share one mission: to serve with compassion, respect and humility.
